ABOUT TRI-CITIES, WASHINGTON
The Tri-Cities, Washington consists of three cities, Kennewick, Pasco and Richland located in the southeastern part of Washington State and situated at the convergence of the Columbia, Snake, and Yakima rivers. Surprising to some, the Tri-Cities area is a desert region with a relatively mild climate averaging 300 sunshine-filled days each year and precipitation less than seven inches. Summer temperatures average a pleasant 88 degrees, with river breezes contributing to cool evenings and balmy days. Thanks to winter temperatures hovering at an average 44 degrees and with little to no snowfall, horseback riding can continue all year long!
Tri-Cities residents enjoy the unique local flavor, quality school systems, virtually non-existent traffic congestion, low crime rate, diverse outdoor recreational opportunities, and limitless regional attractions. Residents have the opportunity of a university level education without leaving the area by attending Columbia Basin College and Washington State University Tri-Cities. The Tri-Cities was the fastest growing metropolitan area in the U.S. between 2010 and 2011. The population as of July 2013 for Kennewick-Pasco-Richland is 268,200.
The Tri-Cities provides a variety of property options for those searching for acreage or large lots. There are specific developments designed to accommodate the equine lover such as the Rancho Reata neighborhoods in Kennewick which have miles of riding trails incorporated throughout; Country Ridge Estates in Richland which has a community riding arena; the Polo Club in West Richland has small acreage lots allowing horses and is near the Richland Rider’s Club. There are also many horse properties and acreage properties available on the outskirts in Benton City, Finley, North Pasco and Badger Canyon areas.
The Tri-Cities and surrounding areas are home to a vast number of equine activities that can keep you and your horses as busy as you desire. Seattle, Washington which is located on the West side of the state is 227 miles away, a 3 hour drive; Spokane, Washington is 140 miles away, a 2 hour drive to the north; the Washington State Horse Park, a 112-acre gem in Cle Elum, Washington is only a 2 hour drive to the west. The Park features 10 miles of trails through stunning scenery and is also a world-class venue for a variety of shows and competitions.
There is still plenty to see and do after you have ridden your horses! An eclectic variety of restaurants and almost every item or service imaginable can be found within the Tri-Cities from quaint and unique specialty shops, nationally known retailers, gourmet goodies, and numerous antique shops. As you may have heard, there’s no shortage of wine in the Tri-Cities. The Tri-Cities is the heart of one of the world’s most exciting wine regions and boasts 160 wineries within an hour drive (there are rumors of wine tours on horseback, which could be very interesting…).
